McInteer Villa

The McInteer Villa in Atchison, Kansas was built in 1889 for an Atchison, Kansas business man by the name of John McInteer. The estimated price tag for this beautiful brick mansion was $14,000 which in today's value would be the equivilant of approximately a little over $422,000. John McInteer was involved in the business of the manufacturing of saddles and harnesses. From that lucrative business Mr. McInteer was able to extend his finances into the Real Estate side of the business world. Sadly John’s first wife, Alice, died in 1892, shortly after the mansion was completed in the process of its contruction. John remarried in 1895 to Anna Conlon, who was a widower with 3 sons. John passed away in 1902. Anna continued to live in the Mansion until her own death in 1916. After 1916 up until 1925 Anna’s brother, Charles J. Conlon, and his family, had made the mansion their home.
